Brother distributes free masks in Soshanguve for Mandela Day

Shoshanguve, 18 July 2020. Brother International South Africa (Pty) Ltd., a leader in home and business IT peripherals worldwide, in association with TBL Empowerment Solutions, donated 240 masks to community members in Shoshanguve for their 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative.

“With the current COVID-19 Pandemic prevalent in our country, and particularly in smaller communities where affordability is an issue, we decided to give out free masks as our Mandela Day initiative this year. It’s a small thing but right now it all helps to keep everybody as safe as possible.” said Riana Keyser, general manager at Brother South Africa.

240 Cloth masks were sewn by learners from the local community on Brother sewing machines that were donated to the Mogogelo Empowerment Centre for Mandela Day 2019. The Mogogelo Empowerment Centre was established by Brother in association with TBL and Judea Hope in the Moretele Local Municipality last year.

The masks were made by 2019 graduates, who were trained in sewing and garment making, and then donated to Shoshanguve community members at the Shoshanguve Crossing Mall on 18 July.  Everyone sanitised their hands on entering the distribution station before they were given their new masks. All social distancing and hygiene stipulations were observed by the team and the community.
